Publisher's Note World Jain Confederation (WJC) is honoured to release a postal stamp in recognition of the scholarly achievements of Late Virchand Raghavji Gandhi, who carried the message of peace and harmony through the world more than a century ago. Along with the stamp release WJC has also brought out reprints of the rare books written by the scholar which are not available presently.
The genesis of forming World Jain Confederation was inspired by the speech of our late esteemed Shri. Nani A. Palkhiwala at an international conference of Jain Social Group about 10/12 years ago when he mentioned that the 21st century will be a Century of Jains. Few people, such as Dr. L. M. Singhvi, Mr. C. N. Sanghvi and Mr Pratap Bhogilal met together and had consultations with more friends here and abroad as to what should be done to bring this prophecy into a reality. Hence, the formation of this body. The President of WJC then was esteemed Dr. L. M. Singhvi, M.P., eminent Jurist, great Philosopher and Ex-High Commissioner to the UK and Shri Pratap Bhogilal was nominated as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Now the President is Dr. N P. Jain, the ex-diplomat and Indian Ambassador to many countries, an eminent Jain scholar and the Chairman is Shri Arunkumar R. Mehta, a leading businessman and an active philanthropist.
WJC was launched in Mumbai by our then Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji during the 2600th Bhagwan Mahavir Janma Kalyanak Mahotsav on 8th April 2001. At that time, Shri
