________________ Conjugation 115. Towards the beginning of Hindi, -i appeared to be too weak to express the absolutive idea. Then the form in question with i was reinforced by another absolutive form kar-i: mār-i kar-i (having killed), paitthi kar-i (having entered), etc. may be the examples of the dark period. 45 (a) Finally, i was dropped from both the forms, so that kar began to be recognised as absolutive suffix in Hindi: mar kar, paeth kar, etc.
