________________ Transliteration Is How los The following scheme of transliteration of original Sanskrit or Prākrit words is adopted in the work :(1) 37 = a, 371 = ā, < = i, $ = i, 3 = u, 5=ū, # = g = e, g = ai, 371 = 0, 34 = au, aj = am, 27: = ah. (2) = k, = kh, I = g, q=gh, = , =ch, = chh, = j, 4= jh, {= ţ, & = țh, B= (= dh, q=ņ, = t, q=th, q=d, I = db, 1 = n, I = P, 5=ph or f, L= b, p = bh, = m, I= y, (=f, *= 1, = v, T = sh, = şh, x = s, &= h, o = !, 8 = kşh, T=jā. (3) p = k, but * ( + 37 ) = ka, and so on. (4) Place-names are generally spelt according to current usage. Abbreviations B.C.-Before Christ. A.D.-After Christ. (Anno Domini) V.S.–Vikrama Samvat. (Starting from 56 B.C.) G.O.S.-Gaekwad's Oriental Series, (Baroda). MBH.--Mahābhārata. C.-Circa.
