Candraprabha - the eighth tirthamkara Candraprabhanātha, the eighth tīrthamkara, was born at Śrāvastī188 which was called Candrapurī 189 or Candrikapurī by the Jainas. 190 His father Mahāsena was the king of Candrapurīl91 and his mother's name was Lakṣmaṇā 192 or Lakşmi Devī.193 According to the Jaina tradition, Candraprabhanātha descended for incarnation from the heaven Vijayanta. 194 He ruled for long and later abdicated his throne to concentrate on a life of asceticism. 195 He became a kevalin under a priyangu 196 or a nāga tree 197 at Candrapurī after penance for three months.198
