Mandodarl's Marriage Prediction by Lakşanajñas that Mandodart's first child would bring destruction on her family - Ravana, enchanted by her charms, marries her with the thought that he would desert the first child born of her. No such predictionVII c. 12 tells us how Maya offers his daughter to Rävana in marriage and the latter accepts her. No such predtction. Maya holding consultations with his counsellors offers Mandodari in marriage to Rāvaņa. 3. The birth of Stta Sita, born of Mandodari and Ravana, was, on account of the prediction, deserted; the foundling was brought up by Janaka and Dhāriņt. Sita was no common mortal; she had come forth out of the earth- from a furrow made by Janaka while ploughing the field; and hence also her epithet 'Ayonijā'. Sita,daughter of Janaka and his wife Videhā, born in a perfectly natural manner. 4. Sia's Svayamvara We are simply told that Sita chooses Räma from amongst many princes as her husband. Sită to be given in marriage only to the man who could bend a wonderful bow which Janaka possessed. Rāma bent the bow so that with a thundering crash, it broke in two. Janaka gave him Sità in marriage. The account of the bending of the bow is given but differently (See canto 28). 5.
