Adrstapāra has been described as the entrance door to the surface of the earth or the lower regions for the flow of Mandākini', the water of tears of Himācala be-moaned in grief over his separation from Maināka, flown down as it were;? which implies that Adrstapāra was a lake from which Mandākini (western Kāli or Kāligangā which rises in the mountains of Kedāra in Garhwal, being a tributary of Alakanandā) passed before descending down to the lower regions. Maināka (The Sivālika range extending from Gangā to Beas) separating from Himālaya leaving behind trails of water which flowing down from it (i.e. Himālaya) fancied as the tears again justify the point that Adrstapāra lake assumed its garb as a tributary of the Ganges which latter rising up and coming down the Himalayas left her offspring in the shape of the former (i.e. Adrstapāra).
Regarding the huge lakes having triplefold series of steps surrounding the mountains Dadhimukha and others numbering sixteen, it is very difficult to offer the precise identification as neither Moiner Williams, nor V.
