क्षणार्द्धमपि देहेन साहचर्य सहेत कः। यदि प्रकोष्ठमादाय न स्याद्बोधो निरोधकः ॥११७॥
117. What ascetic would have suffered association with this body even for half a moment, if Right Knowledge had not by grasping his wrist prevented him (from getting rid of it) ?
समस्तं साम्राज्यं तृणमिव परित्यज्य भगवान्तपस्यन्निर्माणः क्षुधित इच दीनः परगृहान् । किलाटेद्भिक्षार्थी स्वयमलभमानोऽपि सुचिरं न सोढव्यं किंवा परमिह परैः कार्यवशतः ॥११॥
118. Verily did the Lord (Rishabha Deva) himself, after renouncing all his empire, like a straw, and being engaged in austerities, wander without pride, for food, like a poor hungry person, to the door of others, and did not get it for a long time. What difficulties should others not endure for the sake of their object (of obtaining liberation)? पुरा गर्भादिन्द्रो मुकुलितकरः किङ्कर इव स्वयं सृष्टा सृष्टः पतिरथनिधीनां निजसुतः । क्षुधित्वा षण्मासान् स किल पुरुरप्याट जगतीमहो केनाप्यस्मिन् विलसितमलंध्यं हतविधेः॥११६॥
119. Whom (for 6 month) before conception Indra (served) with folded hands, like a servant, who himself (was) the organiser of all organisation, whose son (Bharata was) the possesser of the (nine) treasures (Nidhis), even he, the great (Rishabha Deva) wandered on earth for 6 months, without getting food. Well, the frolics of Doomed Destiny (Karma) are insurmountable by anyone. प्राक् प्रकाशप्रधानः स्यात् प्रदीप इव संयमी। पश्चात्तापप्रकाशाभ्यां भास्वानिव हि भासताम् ॥१२०॥
120. An ascetic, in the first stage chiefly radiates light (of knowledge), like a lamp. Later on he glows, with light and glory (of omniscience) like the sun.
