SPIRITUAL LIGHT. - sympathy for Gosālā, notwithstanding all his per
versions and revengeful wicked acts which could also be found described in the Buddhist books. He is an exemplary instance of forbearance, good will and quietude. One should always bear in mind that evil thoughts for doing harm to others react on one who cherishes them.
When an ascetic has abandoned wealth, wife and the whole family, there is no reason why do should lose fortitude and forbearance as to be excited by wrath. If he does so, he surely commits a heinous sin. It is needless to cite such examples as they are generally met with in all religious books. ક્ષમા યોગને મહાન ઉપગી છે–
“ ક્ષમા એ યુગનો અસાધારણ માર્ગ છે; કેમકે એ ક્રોધરૂપ દાવાનળ ઉપર મેઘની વૃષ્ટિ છે. જે મનુષ્ય ક્ષમા વિના યોગલક્ષ્મી મેળવવા ઈચ્છે છે, તે વિષના પાનથી જીવિત મેળવવા ઈચ્છે છે. ”—૧૦
હારીદતાनिशम्य दुर्भाषितमन्यदीयं नातन्वते रोषमुदाराचत्ताः । सम्पादनीयः सहनस्वभावः शाठ्यं शठाग्रे नहि कर्तुमहम् ॥ २१॥
The generous-liearted are not susceptible to anger on hearing bad words from others. One should acquire the quality of forbearance. He should not stoop to revenge. ( 11 ) સહનશીલતા
