---Thomas Hill- ; * It is one of the saddest ironies of fate for me 'that at a time when I should have expected to enjoy the pleasurable company of my dear friend Lallubhai, and to derive the benefit from his cheerful conversation and sage counsel, I am called upon to discharge the sorrowful duty of writing down a biographical sketch of his short but noteworthy career. In preparing this slight sketch of a grievously short but highly illustrious career, I have derived considerable information from the members of the family of the deceased, and much valuable assistance from the opinions regarding Lallubhai's character given by men of high respectability and position in life. The extracts from some of these opinions are printed at the end of this sketch. I am
