खपमेत्तसोक्खा बहुकालदुक्खा
पकामदुक्खा अनिकाम तोक्खा । संसारमोल्खस्स विपक्खभूया
खाणी अणत्थाण र काम्भोगा ।।
-उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र, १४-१३ Sensuous pleasures give temporary happiness but bring unhappiness for a long time; they give more unhappiness than happiness. They are great hindrances to emancipation and they are really a mine of misfortunes.
- Uttaradhayayan Sutra, 14-13
नापेण जाणई भावे दसणेण य सद्दहे । चरित्तेण न गिण्हाई तवेण परिसुज्जई ।।
- उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र, २८-३५ One knows the nature of substances through Knowledge, keeps faith in them by right Darshan, develops self-control by right Conduc: and purifies the soul by Penance.

तरसेण मग्गो गुरु-विद्धसेवा
विवज्जणा बाल्जणस्स दूरा सज्झाय एर्गत निसेवणा य
सुत्तत्थसचिंतणया धिती य ।।
- उत्तराध्ययन सूत्र, ३२-३ To serve the teacher and old people, to keep away from the company of ignorant people, to study the scriptures, to meditate on the meaning of Sutras, to remain alone and to be patient all these constitute the path of Moksha.
