मुहत्तदुक्खा हु हवंति कंटया
अओमया ते वि तओ सुउद्धरा ।
वायादुरुताणि दुरुद्धराणि
वेराणुबंधीणि महत्भयाणि । दसवैकालिक सूत्र, ९ (३), ७
When a sharp iron nail pricks the body, it can be easily removed; the pain does not last for a long time; but when a sharp nail in the form of hurtful words pricks, it cannot be easily removed; it creates enmity and generates fear. - Dassavaikalika Sutra, 9 (3) 7
सव्वे जीवा वि इच्छंति जीविउ न मरिज्जितं । तुम्हा पाणवहं घोरं निग्गंथा वज्जयंति णं ।। दरायैकालिक सूत्र. ६.१०
All living beings desire to live. Nobody likes to die. Therefore self-restraining persons refrain from the great sin of killing living beings.

वितहं पि तहामुर्ति जं गिरं भासए नरो तम्हा सो पुट्ठो पावेणं किं पुण जो मुसं वए । • दसवैकालिक सूत्र. ७५
It is sin to speak something which may appear like untruth. Then what to say about speaking obvious untruth?
