This is said to belong to the Yajurvēda and bears tho marks of a later addition to Vedic literature. A certain king named Vrşadarvi of the Sibi family is taught by a Purusa issuing from the sun what benefits result from the study of Itihāsa; and this Puruşa also teaches him certain rules of conduct, specially dealing with what has to be observed in the performance of the Sraddha ceremony. He is granted five boons, and it is herein cnjoined that this upanişad is to be repeated during Srāddha ceremonice at the time when the Brahmins take fooi:
