In this Upanisad are described the characteristics of the five Bhūtas or elements, the origin of the senses, the composition of the various parts of the body as made up of the Bhūtas, the four states of consciousness and the 25 principles or Tattvaş. The whole seems to be related to the Sāņkhya system of Hindu philosophy. Beginning :
सह नाववत्विति शान्तिः ।
अथातः पृथिव्यादिमहाभूतानां समवाय(:) शरीरं यत्कठिनं सा पृथिवी यवन्तदापो यदुष्णन्तत्तेजो यत्सश्चरति स वायुर्यत्सुषिरन्तदाकाशं श्रोत्रादीनि जानेन्द्रियाणि श्रोत्रमाकाशे वायौ त्वक् ग्लौ(अनौ)चक्षुरप्सु जिह्वा पृथिव्याङ्ग्राणमिति । एवमिन्द्रियाणां यथाक्रमेण शब्दस्पर्शरूपरसगन्धाश्चैते विषयाः . पृथिव्यादिमहाभूतेषु क्रमेणोत्पन्नाःवाक्पाणिपादपायूपस्थानि कर्मेन्द्रियाणि । तेषाङ्कमेण वचनादानगमनविसर्गानन्दाश्चैते विषयाः ।।
