This Upanişad enjoins renunciation and asceticism on the ground that the mind is the basis of all happiness; it describes the various classes and characteristics of Sannyasins and especially of the three - staff order known as Tridandias. Beginning: पूर्णमद इति शान्तिः।
मन एव मनुष्माणां कारणं बन्धमोक्षयोः । बन्धाय विषयासक्तं मुक्तयै निर्विषयं स्मृतम् ॥ समारक्तं यदा चित्तं जन्तोर्विषयगोचरे । यदेव ब्रह्मणि स्यात्तत् तेन मुच्येत बन्धनात् ।।
चित्तमेव हि संसारस्तत् प्रयत्नेन शोधयेत् । End: यथैव तेन गुरुर्भावनीयस्तथैव सान्नं न भुनक्ति श्रुतं तत् ॥
गुरुरेव परो धर्मो गुरुरेव परा गतिः ।। एकाक्षरप्रदातारं यो गुरुं नाभिवन्दति ॥ तस्य श्रुतं तपो जानं स्रवत्यामघटाम्बुवत् । यस्य देवे परा भक्तिर्यथा देवे तथा गुरौ ।।
स ब्रह्मवित् परं प्रेयादिति वेदानुशासनम् । इत्युपनिषत् । Colophon:- शाट्यायनीयोपनिषत् समाप्ता ॥
