After teaching that the wisdom acquired by the study of the Vedas and the Sastras is lower and that the other wisdom which results from the knowledge of the Immortal One is higher, and that Karma pnassociated with wisdom leads to bondage, while Karma associated with wisdom leads to the salvation of Mökṣa, this Upanisad treats of the characteristics of the Supreme Being us well as of the nature and the origin of the universe. It enjoins renunciation and asceticism and Yogic meditation as the means of attaining the higher wisdom, and almost discards the Vedic religion of rituals.
