From the 3rd and the 4th slokas of the commentator of Bhāṣya, it appears that he was the disciple of Govinda, the disciple of Gopala Sarasvati, the disciple of Sivarama who, being a wealthy Brahmana of Benares, made a name for himself by entertaining Brāhmaṇas there with sumptuous feasts.
It begins thus:
यहि कारुणिकं शरणं गतोऽप्यरिसहोदरमाप महत्पदम् । तमहमाशु हरिं परमाश्रये जनकजाङ्गमनन्तसुखाकृतिम् ॥ 8198.
