The text was written at Nandigrāma and the commentary at Benares. The commentator's father lived at Golagrama on the banks of the Godāvari. The text is complete in 40 verses, to which two more are added, giving a description of the author and the work. It is divided in six sections.
The commentator wrote twice, once for beginners and once for advanced students. The present commentary is for beginners. For that for advanced students see IO. Catal. No. 3092. The commentaries were completed in "गगनवेदशरेन्दमिते शके", that is, in Saka 1540 = 1618 A.D. The initial date of calculation in the shorter work is the 7th Asādha of Saka 1508 = 1586 A.D.
The Post-colophon Statement :
शैलाब्ध षड्भून्मितशाककाले
पौषेऽसिते चाद्यतिथौज्यवारों। उदाहृतिः केशवजन्मपइतेः
श्रीदेवविदल्लिखितूत्तराईम् ॥ (?)
That is, in Saka 1607.

श्रीगणेशाय नमः । नत्वा विघ्नपशारदाच्युतब्रह्मार्कमुख्यान् ग्रहान् ___कुर्वे जातकपद्धतिं स्फुटतरां होराविदां प्रीतये । यंत्रैः स्पष्टतरोऽत्र जन्मसमयो वेद्योऽत्र खेटाः स्फुटाः
यत्पक्षे हि घटन्ते उद्गम इहास्तर्क सषड्भः स च ॥१॥
