The outline of the book :
Parikṣita asked Sukadeva to relate to him about Kṛṣṇa's education in the residence of his preceptor-Sandipana. The sage Sukadeva relates thus: During the Sraddha ceremony of Vasudeva's father, there were a number of learned scholars, and from them Kṛṣṇa and Balarama learned the importance of reading and writing. With a view to acquire knowledge they went to the hermitage of the sage Sandipana, and they were cordially welcomed as the divine incarnations of Viṣṇu. After finishing their education, Kṛṣṇa and Balarama requested Sandipana-the sage to accept remuneration from them. Thereupon their teacher requested them to revive his son Madhumangala, who had been killed by a demon-Sankha by name in the sea.
Thereupon, Sankhasura was killed and Madhumangala was restored to life by Kṛṣṇa. The rejoicing of Sandipana and his wife knew no bounds, when they got back their son once more.
