Umāpati Sivācārya, who lived at Cidambaram, wrote a centum of Sūtras, embodying the substance of Matanga, Mrgendra, Kirana, Devikālottara, Visvasara and Jñanottara Agamas. The Sutras of Umapati are of philosophical interest in the main, dealing as they do about the triad of Pati, Pasu and Pasa and the 'Pa utvanivṛtti' and 'Śivatvābhivyakti'. Jñana Dikga is also treated in it.
The commentator does not disclose his name. According to his own introductory remarks, we are to take that these Sūtras of Umapati Sivacārya have the commentaries of Sadyojyotis, Ramakaṇṭha, Nārāyana and Aghora Sivacārya also.
