The Mahābhārata was first published in India in 1834 in Devanagarf Script. Since then there have been several Editions of the work. Scholars now recognise two distinct recensions of the work. The Northern recension is represented by the Edition of the Text with Nilakantha's commentary published first at Bombay in 1878 A. D. by the Ganapat Krisbnāji Press and recently reprinted by the Citraśālā Press, Poona.
The Southern Recension is being critically edited and published for the first time by the Vavilla Press, Madrug and is in progress. In the tabular statment, the M88. are noti: ced in detail. Gadāparvan is an avântaraparvan under the major Salyaparvan. Similarly, Aişika under Sauptika parvan and Visoka under Stri paryan are also avântara parvans.
