rence is made by Dr. Maraprasādaśāstrinl is very high. The other four commentaries are of particular interest to South Indians as their authors belong to that part of the country. Tryambakayaj. van the author of Dharmákūta (9877) flourished in the court of Shābji the second Mahratta Kuler of Tanjore as he mentions A. D. 1719 as the year in which the work was finished. This work is more a stady of the moral and religious teachings inculcated in the work than a commentary in the ordinary sense of the term. It is being printed in parts in the Sri Våni Vilas Sanskrit Series. Varsdatája the author of Vivekatilaka (No. 9380) probably flourished in 16th century A. D. and mentions Coladesa as his native land. Kandāda Rärnānujā the author of Vyåkhyā (No. 9889) is a South Indian VaingavBrahman and Vaidyadāthadikqita the author of Dipikă is a native of Kandaramāpikyam a village in Tanjore District. It is also gratifying to note that all the above works are complete except Vyākhyā which we have only for 6 Kângas. Three other important and allied works may also be mentioned here
(1) Vasimharāmāyaşa (Nos. 9469-64) (2) Adhyātmarāmāyana (Nos. 9425-49) (3) Adbhutarāmáyage (No. 9458)
The first of these is considored by scholare as recent and is more philosophical in its interest and value than the Epio; the second is a mystic explanation of the Râmávatāra and its signi. ficance; and the ihird which is also considered recent is only a recapitulation of the events of the Lămåyapa. Raghunatha the third Nāyak ruler of Tanjore (A. D. 1610) & scholar-king, wrote also a Römāyapasangraha (Nos. 9467-69) and Isvaradikaita wrote
