abridgements of the contents of the Epic Nos. 8676 & 77 of which the former by Raghanātha is already mentioned.
Two worke which do not actually form parts of Mahabharata as such are given in this section.
(1) Jaiminibbärata (8678-86) (2) Harivamsa (8691-8723)
The first is considered by tradition as being a complete work by Jaimidi but only the Asgamedhikaparvan alone is extant. Till recently some soholais added the Harivaséa to make up the traditional "Lakh" of verses bot of late the feeling is distinctly uganist such inclusion. All these three works are translated into many of the Indian vernaculats and are in use throughout the country. In this connection it is interesting to observe that the Northernmost Kashmir recension of the Epic generally corresponds with the Southeranost recension. Arjunamiếra has also written a commentary for the Larivamsa a complete copy of which is preserved in this Library (No. 8724)
II GĪTĀ (Nos. 8743—9078)
Though the Bhagavadgitā forms part of the Mahābhirata separate space is allcted to it on account of the importance it justly attained at the hands of the later pbilosophical writers.
This is one of the basic works of the Vedanta along with the Upanigads and the Brabmasūtras. It has the unique distinction of being translated into almost all important languages in the world. It is read by a great number of people in all countries and in all climes.
