Båderāyaba: needs no introduction to the philosophion! public. The Brahmasūtras are the basic work of all Vedanta along with the Upanigads and the Gitk. The identity of Badariyana with Vyasa the compiler of the Vedas is a very doubtful question and scholars have not yet said their last word on the subject. So far the view that is holding the field is that there is a number of personages by name Vyāga whicb Was something like a title and Badariyaga is one of them, Whether the Brahina-Sūtras are one compact work of one author is also a dispated question. It is contended by Dr. Koith with the support of other scholars that the redaction of sūtras known as Brabma-Sūtras and Parvamimämsä Sūtras are works of schools expressing their views rather than of individual anthors He also holds that ihese two sets of Sūtras should have been contemporaneous in their origin as they contain mutual mention in themselves as also mention of the same individuals in both.
