The work Nandikesakasika by Upamanya deals with the so-called Mähesvarasutras. Tradition holds that when Lord Siva at the end of his dance beat his dhakka to rouse up Sanaka and other siddhas the sounds that came out took the form of the so called Mahesvarasūtra 8. अ इ उ ण् etc. This work giving the mystical import of those sutras is known as Nandikeda kasika or Nandikesakärikā.
