Carita.
A word of explanation has to be said in connection with
this classification. The works included under the heading tataka do not always contain a centum of verses. In many cases they exceed 100 and in a few they are below that number; and in spite of this apparent inconsistency, the authors of the respective works have named the works as katakas and they have been given under this heading in our classification,
in classifying the manuscripts 'under the heading Campukävyas, certain works, though they are in the Campu style of composition, have been taken from that place and removed to the heading 'carita' since their chief aim is in portrayiug the history of the times and the individuals abont whom they are written. Thus Colaca:u pūḥ (No. 4215), Varadām bikâpariņayacampūh (No. 4220), Dharmavijayacampüh (No. 4281), Bhosalavamśávalscampūḥ (No. 4240) and Sarabharājavilāsaḥ (No. 4241) bave been taken over to the section 'Carita'.
Popular stories like the Hitopadeśa and other works have
been included under the section Katha.
The Carita includes works which ordinarily will form part of other subdivisions of the Kävyas, but they have been given a separate heading since their main prirpose is to depict historical facts. The Hartacarita of Bagabbatta and the Viranārāyagacarita
