Kærasvămin's commentary on the Amarakośa is the earliest of the commentaries available at present. The author, it is said, was a native of Uttiramerūr in the Chingleput Distriot. He belonged to the 11th century A. D.
A portion of the work has been published in the Trivandrum Sanskrit Series. A complete edition has been published in Poona.
