अस्ति खलु समस्तसुरासुरस्तोमवन्दितचरणारविन्दस्य भगवतश्चन्द्रशेखरस्य निवासभूतः सङ्गीतसाहित्यादिना. नाविधनिरवविद्याचतुरचातुर्वर्ण्यजनपरिपूरितः * * कावेर्यास्तीरे महान खटो नाम ग्रामः । End: निर्दुःखलेशमखिलाः सुखिताश्च लोका.
स्तस्मिन् प्रशासतितरां नरनायकेन्द्रे । धर्माभिवृद्धिग्भवत्सततं सुवृष्टि
स्सम्पनसस्यनिकरा पृथिवी बभूव ॥ ८ ॥ कृत्वा शिवप्रियकरान् बहु कारयित्वा
‘धर्माञ्छिवैकशरणः स च देवचोलः । राज्यञ्चकार सुखितः शिवभक्त एत
तस्मै नमो हृदि करोमि शिवस्य दासः ॥ ८८ ॥ Colophon:
इति श्रीविरूपाक्षविरचितं चोलचम्पूकाव्यं समाप्तम् ।। Subject: Colacampū. Remarks:--The Ms. is in good condition.
Virūpákşa, the author of this campū seems to have been a native of Tanjore. The work deals with the history of the Colas, mainly Kulottuaga coda. The colas are represented in this work as belonging to the fourth caste. They were not Ksatriyas according to the author. On the other hand many of the inscriptions of the Coļas trace the origin of the family to the kings of the Solar race
