Wants the beginning and the end.
A discussion on the relative importance of the two methods of drawing up the Hindu calendars, viz., that based upon the rules enunciated by Vararuci and generally known as Vākyayaạitam and that based upon the direot observation of the heavenly bodies, i.e., Drgganitam. Herein the author apparently comes to the conclusion that the method of Vākyagaạitam is by far the better one. Beginning : एवं सामान्यत आर्षत्वे सिद्धे
वाक्यकारं वररुचिं भाष्यकारं पतञ्जलिम् ।।
पाणिनि सूत्रकारं च प्रणतोऽस्मि मुनित्रयम् ॥ इति वैयाकरणैर्मङ्गलार्थतया पठ्यमानश्लोकेन तस्य वररुच्याख्यमुनिप्रणीतत्वसिद्धिरिति तदेव तदत्यन्तपरिहास्यम् । उदाहृतश्रुतिस्मृत्योर्वाक्यशब्दस्याखण्डस्यैव विद्याविशेषवाचकत्वेन भाष्यादिषु व्याख्यातत्वात् वाक्यशब्दस्य पृथगर्थकत्वानुपपत्तेः । अत्र वाको वाक्यशब्दस्तर्कशास्त्रपर इति भाष्यरुतः । किंस्विदासीत्पूर्वचित्तिरित्यादिः प्रश्नोत्तररूपः मात्रभाग इति विज्ञानेश्वरादयः । तत्र श्रुतौ ज्योतिश्शास्त्रवाचकं पादान्तरं नास्तीत्येतदपि पूर्वोत्तरपर्यालोचनाविधुरम् ।
नचापौरुषेयं भास्करतन्त्रमार्षमूलकं भविष्यति तत्प्रामाण्याचार्षमूलकत्वम. स्याप्यविरुद्धमिति वाच्यम् । भास्करीयस्यार्यभटीयाख्यापौरुषेयतन्त्रान्तरमूलकत्वस्य विस्पष्टत्वात् । आर्यभटस्यापि षष्टयब्दानां षष्टिः यदा व्यतीताः त्रयश्च युग
