This is the eight-syllabled Mantra addressed to the sun-god, und is taken from the 15th Anavāka in the 6th Prapathaka of the Taittirīya Aranyaka. Its repetition is intended to secure the favour of the sun-god conceived as Nārāyaṇa. Beginning :
अस्य श्रीसौराष्ट्र(ष्टाक्षरी)महामन्त्रस्य सवितृभगवानृषिः, अनुष्टुप् छन्दः, श्रीसूर्यनारायणो देवता, श्रीसूर्यनारायणप्रसादसिद्धयर्थे जपे विनियोगः ।
