Contains the first two Adhyāyas. The first Adhyāya consists of 25 and the second of 21 Khandas. The total number of Khandas is 46. The number of Khandas in the MS. described next is 42 The 8th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th have no corresponding divisions in this latter codex.
The ritualistic procedure relating to the house-hold rites as observed by the followers of Asvalāyana-sútra. The author refers to Nārāyana, a commentator on this Sūtra, Beginning :
अथाश्वलायनानां सुखावबोधाय नारायणीयादिग्रन्थानवलोक्य लक्ष्मीनृसिंहं नत्वा स्मार्तप्रदीपिकां वक्ष्ये--कर्ता स्नातो धौतानावासा नैकवासा वद्धशिखो यज्ञोपवीत्याचान्तः कृतनित्यक्रियः शुचौ देशे प्राङ्मुख आसीनः कर्म कुर्यात् ।।

इति स्मार्तप्रदीपिकायां प्रथमोऽध्यायः ॥
