The first and the last verses, obviously belonging to a commentary, seom to be out of place, as the codex contains only the text.
This work treats of phonetics, accents, and things like the doubling of consonants in Sandhi as found in all the Vēdas and Sakhas.
From a stanza found in the MS. described under the next number and commented upon in the commentary of Mañcibhatta, noticed under No. 998 as the last stanza of the text, it is inferred that the author is Kēšavārya, son of Sūry adēva (or Sūridēva). Beginning:
ध्यात्वा सर्वजगन्नाथं साम्ब सर्वार्थसाधकम् । व्याख्यायतेऽधुना शीक्षा सर्वसम्मतलक्षणा ॥ (१) कृपालुं वरदं देवं प्रणिपत्य गजाननम् ।। द्वित्वादीनां प्रवक्ष्यामि लक्षणं सर्वसम्मतम् ॥ (२)
