________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir transcripts of all worthy manuscripts have been and still are prepared, the nuniber of original manuscripts and transcripts in this Library at preseilt amounting to 1,000 and 1,500 respectively. It is significant that more than one work are embodied in several of these manuscripts and that the total number of works may thus exceed 5,000.. And yet a vast literary field remains to be explored in Travancore. If a careful scrutiny is made in all private manuscript libraries it is sure to yield splendid results, thus paving the way for the early fulfilment of a long-felt desideratum--the formation of a Central Manuscripts Library. The manuscripts collected and preserved in this Library are of admittedly highly remarkable quality though not extensive in quantity. It is long since the necessity for the preparation of a Descriptive Catalogue was keenly felt, the nominal list of manuscripts made as soon as collected failing to furnish any useful information needed for research. There is thus ample justification for the publication of a Descriptive Catalogue of the manuscripts of this Office of which this forms but the first volume containing descriptive notices of Sanskrit manuscripts on Veda, Srauta, Smrti and Purana. Alphabetical order has been followed in giving the names of works in each section, the designation contained in the original being retained as such. The details of many works coming under the same denomination and vice versa are noted in the remarks column For Private and Personal Use Only
