referring to a charm protective against snakebite and other evils. The sutra is known as Mahāmayurī vidyārañjant (plates
XLIX - LIV). The Bower manuscript is named after its discoverer H. Bower who found these near Kuchar or Kucha (Eastern Turkestan) in 1890. It is a collection of seven distinct mss. or collective ms. in seven pts. It contains 54 birch bark leaves; important portion of it pts. I-III, which deals with medicine is incomplete. The language is Sanskrit and written in Gupta script during 4th century A.D.
