vegetables belong to the category of the Sthāvaras and fire, air and those who are possessed of two senses belong to the category of the Trasas. But the Sarvadarśanasangraha states that the names – Trasa and Sthāvara are given according to the peculiar types of functions which those things do. The Trasa sīvas are those who are governed by the Trasa activities and Trasa Karma is defined as a mixture of the good and bad. The Sarvadars'anasangraha clearly states that the samanaska Jīvas belong only to the class of the Trasas and even among them to the class of those that possess five senses. The commentary of the Sarvadars'anasangraha further states that the Sthāvaras are those that exercise the as'ubha -- bad Karma.
The Trasas (78) are classified according to the number of sense organs; the organisms possessing two senses (Dvindriya-as), three sense organs (Trindriya-ai ), four sense organs (Caturindriya
aftfernt) and those with five sense organs. S. Dasgupta gives the list of the Jivas classified on the basis of the number of sense organs. He writes “The lowest class consists of plants, which possess only the sense organ of touch. The next higher class is that of worms, which possess two sense organs of touch and taste.
