PREFACE
The work of preparing the Descriptive Catalogue of the Vedānta manuscripts existing in the Government Manuscripts Library at the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, Poona, was entrusted to me in the year 1936, when the late Dr. V. S. SUKTHANKAR, M.A., Ph.D., was the Honorary Secretary of the Institute. I started the work soon after it was entrusted to me, and having worked on it at different intervals, submitted to the Institute the entire press-copy of the Catalogue, comprising the description of 1106 manuscripts belonging to all the different Schools of Vedanta, in the year 1942. For some reason or other the printing of this section could not be undertaken till 1947. I am, however, glad that at long last I am able to present to the world of scholars the first part of the Descriptive Catalogue of the Vedānta Manuscripts containing the description of 377 manuscripts and hope that the remaining two parts will be published in due course. As I propose to reserve my detailed survey for the third and the last part of this section, I need hardly add anything in this preface. I may, however, mention here that as regards the arrangement of the subject-matter in this volume I have followed the lines on which the other volumes in this series were brought out by the Institute.
Before concluding the preface it is my pleasant duty to offer my thanks to all those who have helped me in bringing out this volume. In this connection my thanks are due to the Executive Board of the Institute for entrusting the work to me. I have to thank the late Dr. V. S. SUKTHANKAR, M. A., PH.D., the then Secretary of the Institute, Prof. P. K. GODE, M. A., the Curator of the Institute, and Dr. R. N. DANDEKAR, M. A., PH. D., the present Hon. Secretary of the Institue, but for whose co-operation and soļicitude for quick publication my work on the Descriptive Çata
