Preface
For various reasons, the principal one of which was the lack of adequate funds, the publication of the Descriptive Catalogue of Manuscripts had been suspended for the last few years. We were fully conscious that this was causing serious inconvenience to research workers in and outside India. It has, therefore, been now decided to resume that work though the financial condition of the Manuscripts Department cannot be said to have improved in any substantial measure in spite of the enhanced grant from the Government of Maharashtra. Two more volumes are, at present, in different stages of publication, and are expected to be completed - but, in view of the steeply rising cost of paper and printing, I shall not venture to promise when..
Dr. Har Datta Sharma, the compiler of this volume, was & prodigious worker in the field of Sanskrit research and entertained high regard for the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute. It is, indeed, a pity that he should have passed away at a time when his colleagues were expecting so much from him.
