ink tinged with red pigment on either border; names of speakers, topics, marks of punctuation and colophons tinged with red pigment. The ms. contains 3 fragments.
(i) Paper old, worn out and musty: bears Sam. 1607. It deals with vipäkas (results of sinful acts in the previous birth) due to misdeeds committed by a wife ; foll. 1-40 missing; the last folio bears the number 137.
(ii) Paper older and so also the writing than (i); it contains foll. 175-262; the subject matter deals with the vipākas in the form of so many diseases. It is therefore identical in content with I. O, ms. No. 2719, foll. 98b to 1986.
(iii) Paper is worm-eaten; handwriting very bad; consists of foll. 148–189; foll 151-53 are together ; foll. 156, 158, 160, 167, 169-70, 176–77, 181 and 186-87 missing; deals with vipākas like bahuputrata, anapatyatā, etc.
jñānabhāskara is a series of conversations between Sūrya and Aruņa, on the evils of human existence and their causes and remedies. There are many vipäkas passed off as parts of jñānabhāskara. See also No. 236 (Karmavipäka) which is a part of this work. Compare Mitra's Cat. of Bikaner mss., p. 398, Nos. 853 and 854. The Calcutta Sanskrit College Cat., part IX, No. 39 discusses in detail as to whether the work should be classified under Astronomy or Dharma. The late Dr. Rajendra. lal put it under Dharma and in spite of the arguments in Calcutta Sanskrit College Cat., we cannot ignore the Karmavipaka aspect of the work and hence it is included
in Dharma. Age.-- Appears to be very old. Author.- Anonymous. Begins.-- fol. 40%.
