tial that I should here point out one and all the narratives which illustrate the various forms of narration. So I shall mention only a few forms and the works (or their sections) illustrating them:
Allegory -Upamitibhavaprapancakatha. Ballad -'Uttarajjhayana. Biography --Āyāra, 8Pajjosavaņākappa and Viya hapaņņatti.. Dialogue -Uttarajjhayana (IX, XII-XIV, XXII, XXIII &
XXV ). Parable --sSūyagaļa, Nāyādhammakahā7 and 'Uttarajjhayana, Pattern-story-Uvāsagadasa. Romance -Tarangavai. .
The Jaina Classifications of Narratives Some of the Jaina authors have classified narratives. For instance, Sudharmasvamin has said in Thapa ( III, 3,; s. 189) thata narrative is of three kinds : अथकहा (अर्थकथा ), धम्भकहा (धर्मकथा) and कामकहा (कामकथा). Further, in this Thana (IV, 2; s. 282) foar varieties of dhammakaha along with four sub-varieties of each of them is noted as under:
"चडाबिहा घम्मकहा पण्णता, तं जहा-अकरखे वणी, विनवणी, संवेयणी, निम्वेगणी । अखेवणी कहा चउविहा ५०० आयार अखेवणी, धबहार अखेपणी, . पति अश्वेवणी, दिदिशात अक्वेवणी । विखेवणी कहा चउविहा पं.तं. ससमय
डे, ससमयं कहित्ता परसमयं कहेइ १, परसमयं कहेत्ता ससमयं ठावत्तिता भवति २, सम्मावातं कहेइ, सम्मागतं कहेत्ता मिच्छावातं कहेइ ३, मिच्छाबातं कहता सम्मा पातं ठावतिता भवति ४। संवेगणी कथा चउविहा' पं. तं. इहलोगे दुचित्रा कम्मा
