FOREWORD
It gives me great pleasure to present to the world of scholars, this third Volume of "An Alphabetical List of Manuscripts in the Oriental Institute, Baroda" as G.O.S. No. 178, containing a list of 6,000 Mss. on different subjects (especially Jaina-titles), deposited in the prestigious Manuscripts Section of the Oriental Institute, the M. S. University of Baroda, Vadodara. The Institute, at present, has nearly 28,000 Mss. Volume I, comprising entries of 7348 works, was published as G.O.S. No. 97, in 1942. Volume II, incorporating entries of 9077 works was published as G.O.S. No. 114 in 1950. These two Volumes together have covered 14,000 Mss. in possession of the Oriental Institute (A manuscript at times contains more than one work each requiring a separate entry). This is the Third Volume in the Series, presenting a list of subsequent additions to the original collection and covering Mss. Nos. 14001 to 20000 of the Oriental Institute collection. The remaining are still to be covered in the forthcoming volumes of the Series.
. The importance of Alphabetical Index of such valuable Mss. collections is well-known to the scholarly world. One can get detailed information about the rare and precious collection and make the best use of them for research and editorial purposes. The present volume will give a fund of information about many Jaina Mss., besides those on other subjects. I am sure, this Volume also, as the previous ones, will be well-received by the scholars interested in Manuscriptology and other researchers.
I take this opportunity to thank the University authorities for releasing the necessary grant for the publication of this volume. I am also grateful to the Government of India for giving financial assistance for preparing the tabulated Index-forms. I also thank Shri P.N. Srivastava, the Manager, the M.S. University of Baroda Press, Vadodara and his colleagues for their co-operation in the printing of this book.
