variants found in other copies of Janardan's works. The "Savãi JayaSimha-nije sta-rahasya" (1161/24800) is peculiarly interesting when it tells us that the astrologer king was a silent devotee of Bhagavati Śri Tripurasundari (Sri Vidya). This reference is significant. There are very few works in Sanskrit on indoor games. The "Vilasamani Mañjarī" (854/24430) on quadruple chess is one of them compiled by Trivengācārya for the pleasure of Peshwa Baji Rao. It also lays down guidance to the players for acquiring proficiency in the game. The voluminous "Vaidya Vinoda" (1011/23914) by Sankara Bhaṭṭa is a work dealing with the nature and treatment of diseases. The author has freely drawn from the writings of Caraka, Harita, Suśruta, Vägbhata and others. His independent treatment of the subject however has its own value for the students of the Indian medicine system.
A more vigorous search, I am sure, would yield information of greater value by making a critical use of the works catalogued.
Shri Ramanand Saraswat, Senior Research Assistant has prepared this Catalogue to the best of his knowledge and ability. Slips and ommissions in the course of reading the proof has necessiated inclusion of an errata for which I crave the indulgence of readers.
I must express my grateful thanks to the Sadhana Press for having done their job well.
