PREFACE
One of the main objects of our Institute from the very beginning has been to collect and preserve Mss. on all the subjects of Indology. The Institute is fortunate enough to get as presentation an important and valuable collection of Mss. from Rev. Muni Shri Punyavijayaji. This collection is not a single man's effort or the result of a few years' endeavour. Muni Shri Punyavijayaji, his Guru Rev. Shri Chaturavijayaji and Pravartaka Shri Kantivijayaji were responsible for the said collection. More than fifty years' devoted service lies behind this sacred task,
Seeing that Muni Shri Punyavijayaji will ably preserve the Mss. many persons handed over their valuable small or big collections to the said Muniji. Many a time Muniji, his Guruji and Pravartakaji were fortunate enough to get valuable Mss. from gunny bags or bundles meant to be thrown away into rivers or the sea.
Rev. Muni Shri Punyavijayaji got some of the Mss. of this collection from the following sources :(1) Ācārya Vijayavallabha sūri handed over the Mss. collection of
Ācārya Vijayananda sūri. (2) Goraji Kasturavijayji of Palitana. (3) From the Jaina Upāśraya, Devaśānā Pādā, Ahmedabad after the
deata of Munishri Mahendravimalaji. (4) Jaina Dharamavardhaka Sabhā, Āyambilaśālā, Ahmedabad. (5) Munishri Motivijayaji. (6) From the Srāvakas of Patan, Ahmedabad. Nadiad, Sardarpur,
Ilol, Gavāda, Maņund, Ranuja, etc.
Muniraja Shri Punyavijayji's collection includes the texts in Sanskrit, Prakrit, Apabhraíía, old Rajasthani and old Gujarati languages. But we have selected 10000 mss. having Sanskrit and Prakrit. (Apbhramasa, included) texts for this Catalogue. This Catalogue will be completed in three parts out of which first Part is published now.
This Catalogue is compiled according to the Scheme for the Publication of the Catalogues of Mss. of the Ministry of the Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi. We give below the explanations which will help the readers to understand fully the significance of the 11 Columns in which the information about a perticular Ms. is given :
