Nātaputa is mentioned as having held the doctrine of four-fold restraint, In the Udumbarika-Sibanda-sutta, the restrainsts ascribed to him are different, but identical with the four vows of Pārsva. Jainism is not only a purely ethical system but also philosophical-Anekānta or Syadvada. Jainism enjoins such behaviour as does not cause injury to any Jiva. The Anguttara, and the seventy-fourth sutta of the Tikanipata, redicule the Jain doctrines particularly its idea overcoming sin, its restraint on movements and its insistence on certain types of clothing.
