LESHYAS : THOUGHT-FORMS & COLOURS
Birendra Bir Baj
Leshyas (tints) are of two kinds : Dravya (material) Leshya and Bhava (thought : emotion) Leshya. One may have black exterior but of the other individual, the inner-self may be black. The first one, the black exterior does not do any harm but the latter one is of immense consequence. Various thoughts and emotions spring from actions of mind, speech and body prompted by passions and past Karmas. One besmeared by these is called as tinged by bhava or internal leshya. This leshya is the root cause of the endless cycle of rebirths since eternity and these lines are devoted to it.
Broadly speaking intensest, intenser and intense are their degrees. They are six in number: Krishna (Black), Neel (indigo), Kapot (Dove-like-grey), Peet or Tejo (yellow)), Padma (pink, azure) and Shukla (white). The first three of these are considered as evil leshyas while the last three are regarded as of merit. The second group of leshyas, viz, tejo, padma & shukla, find only a limited room to play their role on the stage of universe in comparison to the other ones, i.e., Krishna, Neel and Kapot. The latter group in fact preponderates in this regard. Each succeding leshya is qualitatively superior to the earlier one in the ascending order. A person with Krishna Leshya is of violent temper, who, if once estranged cannot be reconciled notwithstanding any offer of presents or extension of respect. By nature he is used to filthy language and is fighting. Piety and kindness are far from him. He is wicked and cannot be overcome. Food, money, land, submissions, sweet-words and shower of praises all fail to win over him; they rather go to make him all the more stubborn. He is a libertine and dullard. Indulgence, deception and conceit are his other traits.
The individual possessing neel-Leshya is both very lethargic and deceitful. He always very much longs to have pelf and property and is a braggart.
One having Kapot leshya bursts on others. He accuses and defames them in a variety of ways. He is very mournful, frightened, intolerant, insulting and highly self-extolling. He does not repose confidence in others. His own praises give him satisfaction. He would rather pay for his own evlogies. He is incapable of taking decisions as to what to do or not to do. Gain or loss accruing to his own-self or others have no meaning for him.
