how? A boy stays with us about 5 to 6 hours on each working day. There are good number of holidays which create so often a gap between the teaching works. A study indicates that there are hardly 200 working days. Thus we get a little time to work for good behaviour. A student spends a considerable amount of time in his home. Whatever time the school gets, it has to spend in preparing students for the examination. Creditability of the school depends on the final examination result. Thus in this short span of teaching periods we have to prepare the students for the stereo type of examinations only.
Naturally this defective system of examination forces teachers to encourage the students for rote rnemorisation. What ever students prepare for their examinations become obsolete and irrelevant when they come in the real society to earn their livelihood.
It is said that knowledge doubles in ten years time. Thus the knowledge is increasing in geometrical progression. But the time to gain it, is limited. After certain age they have to join the chorus of life, with this irrelevant and outdated knowledge.
Thus, it should be the endeavour of teachers to see that the students are prepared in such a way that they themselves could read, write and understand the new knowledge which is published in the form of books. Thus students should be capable of reading and understanding the subject matter in various capacity. The home, the peer groups, parents, media may be of great help in educating a boy. A student who does not get proper atmosphere cannot develop properly. He is very much a product of his family atmosphere. There may be scarcity of fund in the family. The father may be fully busy, having no time to meet his children. Mother not having any education worth name. Or, father's inability to keep the family with him. In cases where the child is living with his parents (both father and mother) the child sees, in some cases parents quarreling, Sometimes father beating the mother for no fault of her, Father might be an addict, but he wants that his child should get good education. A smoker never wants that his ward should smoke. A person who drinks does not want that his son should drink. Therefore, parents, for the proper up-bringing of their children should sacrifice their momentary pleasure. We want equality in educational opportunity, but there is no equality in economic and social status. This is the saddest part of our educational system that earning and learning do not go hand in hand. When we learn, do not earn and when we earn do not learn.
We want that each and every boy should be honest. To fulfil this aim we ourselves should also have an ideal character. We should not harass the boy for taking private tuition. The difficulty today is that the consumerism had made us so much materialistic that we are always involved in earning by hook and crook not thinking what is right and what is wrong.
In last four decades there had been rapid and pervasive social change. It is one of the major changes in

values. But the only values which did not change are so inclusive that they are vaguely defined. For instance, the value of honesty was always important, but in actual practice, they are greatly changed. Again, justice is an abstract word for a value, as is democracy.
These values are as important now as they were a long time ago, but their operational meaning is different today.
Home and society both set a very bad example of honesty. This aspect of honesty is the key word and is taught and preached in all religions and scriptures. Most of the people do not bother about them. This hypocrisy is largely prevalent in home and society. The boys and girls are living in this atmosphere. They find that a street fiddler becomes instant multimillionaire. He is honoured. After earning money nobody remembers his past. It is rightly said "Whatever you do, if you come out successful, nobody is going to criticize you."
When a boy or girl comes across such atmosphere, he is at a loss to decide what should he or she do. Which is the right path? In many cases they are convinced that the path of dishonesty is the right path.
Politics has emerged as a new force in national life Diametically opposed points of view clash and ensuing clamour every shade of opinion can be heard shouted at fever pitch. Welfare of the nation has taken a backseat. Alleged Criminals are protected, sheltered and supported by our legislators. A number of them have a criminal record also.
In our legislatures sometimes we come across such type of behaviour, which is awful, awkward and unbecoming of a legislator. Free and fair election which is the basis of democracy is at a very low ebb. In this atmosphere teachers have to play a very important role. He should not accept the brief of any political party. He should give free and unbiased opinion. Alas! we are not honest to our profession and opinion.
There is a noticeable decrease in pupils abilities to control impulsive behaviours and the trend is increasing. Both Psychological and social factors contribute to this situation. In affluent homes also the condition remains the same. parents do not care to devote sometime, with their children, Once it so happened that a family consisting of wife, husband and two children aged 9 and 7 was taking tea and morning break fast together. The gentleman was busy in reading News Paper. The child of nine years was telling some thing and the father without paying attention to him was saying "han" "hun" to show that he was listening to the boy. The young child understood that the father was not listening to him. He snatched the paper from the father and quipped," "Dad, please listen to us, sometimes we also talk a useful thing". Really we have to listen to our children also, if we want their proper development. I have met several affluent guardians who do not know the real name of their children. Many of them do not know in which class their ward reads. The child is getting every thing but not the proper care from his parents.
