The Svetambara recension of the " Tattvårthadhigama Sutra" has the following prasasti at the end :
न्यग्रोधिकाप्रसूतेन विहरता पुरवरे कुसुमनाग्नि । कौभीषणिना स्वातितनयेन वात्सीसुतेनार्म्यम् ॥ १ ॥ अर्हद्वचनं सम्यग्गुरुक्रमेणागतं समुपधार्य । दुःखार्तश्चदुगगमविहतमतिं लोकमवगम्य ॥ २ ॥ इदमुच्चैर्नागरवाचकेन सत्त्वानुकम्पया दृब्धम् ।
तत्त्वार्थाधिगमाख्यं स्पष्टमुमास्वातिना शास्त्रम् ।। ३ ॥
This tells us that the anthor Umāsvāti" also known as " Nagara Vachaka" was born in "Nyagrodhik.i" but resided in "Kusum.apura", He was the son of Svati and Vatsi, anal belonged to the "Raublishana gotra" (of Peterson, IV Report, p. vi).
Another Svetambara account assigns him to centuries belore Christ. Arva Mahagiil, the loth pontiff aiter Mahavira, died 249 vears after the latter. lle had two pupils Bahula and Bahisseha. The pupil of the latter was the author Umastāti Vichaka (17 Epitome of Jainism, p. 562 ).
l'or the Digambara account of the Acharya, ce the Pattávali ol the Sarasvati gachchha Indian Antiquarı, Vol. XX, p. 341) where he is mentioned as the sixth in succession from Dhadra. buhu, and as succeedling Kundakundacharva His date of death is given V.S, 142 Or A.D. 85.
In the Digambara recension of the Tatturthiadhigama Sutra we live only one verse by way of "prasasti" of the author. This verse is
तत्त्वार्थसूत्र कर्तारं गृद्धपिच्छोपलाञ्छितम् ।
वन्देगणीन्द्रसंजातमुमास्वामि मुनीश्वरम् ।।
In the "Virtha Kalpa" of Jinaprabha Sai it is stated that Imásváti was the author of 500 Sanskrit Trakaranas. But so far only the following works of his have been discovered :
1) Tattharthadhigama Sutras, (2) Bhashya on the above, (3) Pajaprakarana, (1) Jambudvipasamisa, and,
(5) Prakamarati. All these have been published by the Bengal Asiatic Society in one lume. Fach of these works bears the following coloshon:-"कृत्तिःसिताम्बराचार्यस्य महाकवेरुमास्वातिवाचकस्यइति।"
