latter had the advantage of an inspection at any rat: for some days. At the ead will be found some extracts, which can the the eye and appeared important from linguistic, historical o other points of view. With all its meagreness it is hopa! this collectanea will prove of some use to scholars.
In conclusion I beg to acknowledge the courtsey of the Deputy Commissioners for giving me all possible aid in the collection of information I wanted. I am specially thankful to Mr. R. A. Wilson, 1.c.s., of Amraoti, Colonel Plowden and Mr. A. K. Smith, 1.C.S. of Akola, Mr. K. L. Gura, M.A., retired Inspector of Schools, Saugor, Rai Sahib Raghubar Prasad Dwivedi, B.A., Principal Hitkariai High School, Jubbulpore, Mr. Gokul Prasad, quondam Tahsildar, Hoshangabad, now Assistant Commssioner, lacome Tas, Pandit Gauri Shankar Agnihotri, formerly Tahsildar, Sohagpur, and now Administrator, Raigarh State, and Mr. Ramsewak, once a Naib.Tahsildar of Bilaspur, and now Tahsildar, Sakoli, for their valuable help. I have already expressed my gratitude to the Bhonsala Rajas and the managers of the Karanja Temples, for allowing free access to their collections. Considering the prejudice, which induced some Mahamahopadhyayas and Sastris to withhold information in regard to the manuscripts they possessed, I think it is extremely creditable to the village Pandits to have unreservedly furnished lists of their records. For inducing some of the hesitating ones, to follow their example, Rao Bahadur R. V. Mahajani's help was of much use to ine. In the examination of the Jaina records I received very valuable help from Mr. Hiralal Jain, M.A., LL.B., which has been already acknowledged, My thanks are also due to Professor Rampratap Sastri of the Morris College for reading over some final proofs and to the Superintendent of the Government Press, Nagpur, for getting a somewhat novel and difficult job requiring so many diacritical marks, completed in as satisfactory a manner as wag possible under the circumstances.
But for the countenance given to learning by the Governmen of His Excellency Dr. Sir Frank Sly, K.C.S.I., D.Litt., the traces of so many valuable records of this province would have remained unnoticed for years to come.
