The Kudlur plates furnish some personal details about this monarch and record that "during his boyhood Marasingh was reputed for prodigious physical strength and military prowess, for his rcspcct to gurus and obedience to teachers, for gcnticness and gencrosity of character and for scholarship." Further, "His reign appears to have been literally crowded with military engagements, sicgcs and invasions." He followed the policy of dynastic alliance with the Rashtrakutas and made great conqucsts with them. The Rashtrakuta King Krishna himself performed the ceremony of crowning Marsingh as the ruler of Gangavadi. He conquerrcd Ashyapati and rescued the Kalachuri Kings from the aggressive attacks of Gurjaras. He was victorious in battles fought on the banks of the Tapti and succeeded in dispersing the Kiratas. "Marsingh encountered also, the Chola Prince Rajaditya, having in a fit of anger made a boastful declaration of war at a great festival of victory, and defeated him and took by storm the hill fortress of Ucchangi, which had proved impregnable even to Kaduvetti.
