________________ THE JAINA GENERALS. The Ahimsa culture of Jainism provides for the welfare of the soul and body alike. In it proper care has been taken to train the individual as well as society on humane lines. It inspired its votaries to manifest the highest conceivable form of Good within the individual reach. Thus progressing in the path of Ahimsa morality, the Jain individuals form a society of brave, humane and just people. It is why a monarch, a warrior and a peaceful citizen equally observes the Ahimsa vow. The heroes of war in Jainism were not aggressive and they lived a pious life. Here below a chosen few examples of Jain generals and commanders will convince the reader of this fact; although total number and their heroic deeds are innumerable. In the 10th century A.D. Chamundaraya was a great name among generals and ministers. He belonged to the Brahma-Ksatra race and served under the Ganga kings by name Marasimha ll and Rachamalla Il. It was due to his heroism that the Ganga kings were able to crush their enemies and to win their great battles. In an inscription at Shravanabelgola Chamundaraya have been eulogised in the following terms: "Chamundaraya, the Sun adorning,
