GĪTĀ, TRANSLATION & COMMENTARY, CH. XIII 1107
श्रीभगवानुवाच ।
88 इदं शरीरं कौन्तेय क्षेत्रमित्यभिधीयते । पतयी वेत्ति तं प्रातुः क्षेत्रज्ञ इति तद्विदः ॥ १ ॥
क्षेत्रज्ञ चापि मां विद्धि सर्वक्षेत्रेषु भारत । क्षेत्रक्षेत्रज्ञयोर्ज्ञानं यत्तज्ज्ञानं मतं मम ॥ २ ॥
which means:-"Arjuna said: I wish to know what prakrts, purusa, ksetra, ksetrajla, jana and jñeya are. Therefore, tell me that". But, it is quite clear that some one, who has not understood how the Consideration of the Body and the Atman has found a place in the Gitä, has subsequently interpolated this stanza into the Gita. Commentators look upon this stanza as an interpolation; and if that is not done, the number of stanzas in the Gitā also exceeds seven hundred Therefore, I too have looked upon this stanza as an interpolation and started this chapter as in the Samkarabhasya.]
The Blessed Lord said:-(1) O Kaunteya! this Body itself is called the 'ksetra'. He, who understands this (Body), is called the 'ksetrajna' by the 'tadvida-s' (that is, by those persons who understand this science). (2) O Bhārata! know that in all Bodies, I am the Asetrajna (that is, the Self or the Atman-Trans.). The Knowledge of the keela' and the 'ksetrajna has been considered the Knowledge of Me (the Paramesvara).
[In the first stanza, the meanings of the two words ketra and ketraja have been defined; and in the second stanza, the kşetrajla has been defined by saying that "the ketraja means Myself, i. e, the Parameśvara"; or that, "that which is in the Body, the same thing is in the Cosmos". The word 'capi="also" in the second stanza indicates that He is not only the Atman (kşetrajña), but also the Body (letra); because, it has been stated already in Chapters VII and VIII that the ketra, or the Body, originates from the five primordial elements, which in turn
