रुद्राणां शंकरश्चास्मि वित्तेशो यक्षरक्षसाम् । वसूनां पावकश्चास्मि मेरुः शिखरिणामहम् ॥ २३ ॥ पुरोधसां च मुख्यं मां विद्धि पार्थ बृहस्पतिम् । सेनानीनामहं स्कन्दः सरसामास्मि सागरः ॥ २४॥ महर्षीणां भृगुरहं गिरामस्म्येकमक्षरम् । यज्ञानां जपयज्ञोऽस्मि स्थावराणां हिमालयः ॥ २५ ॥
Manu; and another critic says that the writer of the Gītā was possibly a Sāma-Vedi; and that he has, on that account, given prominence to the Sāma-Veda. But, in my opinion, it is not necessary to go so far for giving a satisfactory explanation of the words “ I am the Sāma-Veda among the Vedas". The worship or praise of the Parameśvara in the form of a song is always given prominence in the Path of Devotion. For instance, in the Nārāyaniya-dharma, Nárada has described the Blessed Lord as "vedesu sa purānesu sūngopūngesu giyase" (Ma. Bhā. Sān. 334. 23); Vasurāja has been described as 'singing' the japya': cf., "japyam jagau" (Sän. 337, 27; and 342. 70 and 81 ), by making use of the root 'gai' (to sing). There is, therefore, nothing to be surprised at in prominence being given in a devotional religion to the musical SāmaVeda over the ritualistic Veda consisting of Yajñas and Yāgas; and in my opinion, this is the simple reason for
saying “I am the Sāma-Veda among the Vedas".) (23) And, among the (eleven) Rudras, I am Samkara; Kubera, among the Yaksa-rāksasa-s; I am the Pāvaka, among the (eight) Vasū-s; I, the Meru among the (seven) mountains; (24) O Părtha ! and understand that among the preceptors, I am the principal one, namely, Brhaspati; I (am) Skanda (Kārtikeya) among the commanders of armies; I am the Samudra (the ocean), among collections of water. (25) I, Bhrgu, among the great Rsis; I am the one-syllabled sound 'om-kāra' in speech; I am the Japa-yajña, among Yajñas; and from among the immoveable (that is, steady) things, I am the Himālaya;
